Q. My for seals keep leaking, I have replaced them several
times but the problem still persists. What can I do to prevent my
fork seals from leaking in the future?
A. There are a number of things you can do
to help prevent leaking fork seals. The first is to religiously
bleed your forks of built up pressure. To do this remove the small
screw on each fork cap, you should hear any air trapped in the fork
escaping. This relieves the pressure on the fork seals and helps
prolong their life. A better way to do this is to install a set of
"Speed Bleeders"
available through our online
store.
Another way of extending the life of your
fork seals it by installing a set of
Seal Savers.
These act as a second dust seal preventing fine dust and other
contaminants from getting past the fork seal. Seal Savers are also
available through our online store.
If your seals are already leaking you may
try running a piece of film negative in between the seal and chrome
fork leg. This will free any sand that may be preventing the seal
from properly seating on the fork tube.
Q. I need a spark arrester for my KTM Four stroke, but I don't
want to pay $300 for a new silencer what can I do?
A. The best solution is to add a
Pro Moto
Billet end cap. these are available through our online store.
Q. The bottom screen bolt is difficult to remove what do I do?
A. The best way to remove the stock allen
head screen bolt is to use a hand or pneumatic impact wrench. After
the bolt is removed I would recommend replacing it with the
stainless steel one made by
System Tech Racing.
These accept a 13mm socket making it much easier to remove with out
the risk of striping the head. This item is available through our
online store.
Q. My brakes are overheating what should I do to stop this?
A. There are a number of things that you
can do to cure your overheating problem. First off I would check
that your brake lever is adjusted properly. If your brake lever is
not adjusted properly it can cause your brakes to drag and overheat.
If your brake is properly adjusted and you are still experiencing
problems I would try using a high temp DOT 4 brake fluid such as
Motul's RBF 600.
If you are prone to dragging your rear
brake you may want to try one of the many after market
brake coolers
available.
Q. How can I prevent my levers from braking in the event of a
crash?
A. The first thing you should do is make
sure your brake and clutch master cylinders are just tight enough to
prevent them from slipping during normal use, but loose enough to
twist out of the way in the event of a crash. If you still have
problems braking levers you could try using one of the many hand
guard options available or a set of the
folding KTM levers.
Q. How do I prevent my pant leg from melting to my exhaust pipe
on my 4-stroke KTM?
A. We have a number of aftermarket
exhaust guards
available that will save your expensive riding gear.
Q. What can I do to keep my shift lever from coming loose? I keep
tightening it, but after a few rides it comes loose again.
A. This is a common problem with the KTM's,
but the solution is quite simple. We use a dab of
Red Loc-tight on
the threads of the shift lever bolt as well as a dab on the splines
of the shift shaft.
